After flying high against the Bunn Wildcats last Tuesday, the Southern Nash Firebirds came back down to earth. Southern Nash was dealt a 63-23 loss at the hands of Rocky Mount on Friday. While losing is never fun, Southern Nash can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 403rd, while Rocky Mount is ranked 94th).
McKinley Battle continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Rocky Mount, scoring 20 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Battle hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlin White, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Southern Nash has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Rocky Mount, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 16-4.
Southern Nash will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Northern Nash at 6:00 p.m. As for Rocky Mount, they will head out on the road to square off against Franklinton at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Franklinton is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
