The Antioch Sequoits will head out on the road to face off against the Lakes Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Antioch will be strutting in after a victory while Lakes will be coming in after a loss.
Even though Antioch has not done well against Grant Community recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Antioch took down Grant Community 44-29. 44 seems to be a good number for Antioch as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Antioch's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Heidi Rathmann led the charge by scoring 14 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Rathmann has scored at least 25% of Antioch's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Macie Volkmar, who scored 10 points.
Meanwhile, Lakes came up short against Maine East last Tuesday and fell 50-37. Lakes has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Lakes had strong showings from Kaylee Anderson, who scored 5 points along with 5 rebounds, and Jessica Ross, who scored 13 points.
Their wins bumped Antioch to 4-2 and Grant Community to 3-4.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's game: Antioch have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.2 threes per game. It's a different story for Lakes, though, as they've been averaging only 4.8 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
Antioch skirted past Lakes 47-45 in their previous matchup back in January. Does Antioch have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lakes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
