Basketball Game Preview: Riverbend Bears vs. Brooke Point Black Hawks

After both having extra time off, the Riverbend Bears and the Brooke Point Black Hawks will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverbend will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

While Riverbend didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 68-56 victory over Stafford back in December of 2024. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Indians are ranked 266th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Riverbend to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hubert King III (Tr?), who went 9 for 14 on his way to 26 points and seven rebounds. With that strong performance, King III (Tr?) is now averaging an impressive 16 points per game. Donovan Tate was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Riverbend smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stafford only pulled down three offensive rebounds.

Meanwhile, couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 81-52 stomp they got against Hylton.

Brooke Point has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.9 points per game. As for Riverbend, their record is now 8-1.

Riverbend suffered a grim 68-46 defeat to Brooke Point in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Riverbend avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
