Constitution is 4-0 against Benjamin Franklin since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Constitution Generals will play host again and welcome the Benjamin Franklin Electrons, where tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Constitution had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past Martin Luther King 80-44 at home on Thursday. Constitution has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 21 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Constitution to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kyree Latimer, who scored 23 points along with seven assists. Amir Speights was another key contributor, scoring 23 points.
Meanwhile, in a tight game that could have gone either way, Benjamin Franklin made off with a 55-54 win over Audenried. Given Benjamin Franklin's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 230th, while Audenried is ranked 519th), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Nazire Johnson and Soukare Fane were among the main playmakers for Benjamin Franklin as the former dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 rebounds and the latter scored 22 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Johnson also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kneco Hill, who scored four points along with eight assists and eight rebounds.
Constitution has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. As for Benjamin Franklin, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Constitution hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 70.2 points per game. However, it's not like Benjamin Franklin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 67.2 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Everything came up roses for Constitution against Benjamin Franklin in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 89-44 win. Does Constitution have another victory up their sleeve, or will Benjamin Franklin turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
