After flying high against Eagle Academy last Tuesday, the Weequahic Indians came back down to earth. Weequahic was just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 48-47 to Newark Academy. Weequahic was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Newark Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Despite the defeat, Weequahic saw an underclassman step up: Tyhir Barlow scored 20 points. Bart Jordan was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Weequahic's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Newark Academy, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-4.
Weequahic will square off against Bloomfield at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Newark Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Barringer at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Barringer is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
