Crown Point hasn't had much luck against Lake Central recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Bulldogs will face off against the Indians at 6:00 p.m. Crown Point will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Crown Point is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Munster get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted since May 7th.
The result came thanks to Logan Cotton's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sean Dunlap was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Lake Central made easy work of Hammond Morton on Friday and carried off a 20-0 victory. Considering the Indians have won 15 matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ethan Champman looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Lake Central got a massive performance out of Parker Robinson, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Robinson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Victor Villegas, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Lake Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in nine consecutive contests.
Lake Central is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Crown Point, their victory bumped their record up to 26-4.
Both Crown Point and Lake Central just can't seem to miss. The Bulldogs have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Lake Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Crown Point was able to grind out a solid win over Lake Central in their previous meeting on May 14th, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
