With a playoff win on the line, Maclay rose to the challenge on Friday. They put the hurt on the North Florida Educational Institute Fighting Eagles with a sharp 39-18 win. The result was nothing new for the Marauders, who have now won six games by 21 points or more so far this season.
Beau Beshears was his usual excellent self, throwing for 197 yards and four TDs while completing 75% of his passes, and also picking up 50 receiving yards and one score. His passing game has become a key predictor of Maclay's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-3 otherwise. The Marauders also got a significant boost from Anthony White, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 129 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Maclay's defense and their three sacks. Hunter Sheheane was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself.
When it comes to explaining why North Florida Educational Institute lost, don't look at Jordan Robinson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 262 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.1 yards per carry. Robinson really tore up the turf during one magnificent 90-yard run.
Maclay's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for North Florida Educational Institute, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 6-5 record.
Coming up, Maclay will take on Trinity Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Conquerors will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Marauders surely won't give up without a fight. North Florida Educational Institute does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
