After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Glenwood, the Rochester Rockets were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They came out on top against Springfield by a score of 55-47. The victory was all the more spectacular given Rochester's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 301st, while the Senators are ranked 106th).
Rochester had a senior duo take command as Ellie Gegen scored 19 points and Becca Ryan scored 14 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gegen has scored all season. Alyse Day was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Rochester pushed their record up to 11-17 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for Springfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rochester will face off against the Generals at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully MacArthur focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 last Tuesday. As for Springfield, they will head out on the road to square off against the Cyclones at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
