North Schuylkill's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over Panther Valley. That 18 run margin sets a new team best for the Spartans this season.
Brigid Flynn made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Flynn was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Lindsay Brouse and Jordanna Frie did most of the damage at the plate: Brouse scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Frie scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Those runs marked the first that Brouse scored this season. Maria Monahan was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
North Schuylkill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Panther Valley only posted a batting average of .167.
Meanwhile, Pine Grove put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Pottsville 13-0.
Pine Grove got a massive performance out of Madison Shiffer, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three doubles, and two runs. Those three doubles gave Shiffer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamie Dinger, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Pine Grove pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for North Schuylkill, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. North Schuylkill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .492. However, it's not like Pine Grove struggles in that department as they've averaged .494. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
North Schuylkill couldn't quite finish off Pine Grove when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
