Lamar is on a five-game streak of home losses, Manitou Springs a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Lamar Thunder will take on the Manitou Springs Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Friday, Lamar was beaten by Woodland Park 49-13. Lamar was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-7.
Meanwhile, Manitou Springs was the victim of a rough 40-14 loss at the hands of La Junta last Thursday. Manitou Springs was down 40-0 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Nate Gentzel, who punched in a rushing score, and also threw for 181 yards and a touchdown.
The losses dropped both teams to an identical 3-5.
Everything came up roses for Lamar against Manitou Springs in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 33-6 victory. Will Lamar repeat their success, or does Manitou Springs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
