AAA District 11 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Brentwood extended the longest winning streak in AAA District 11 this week by beating Hillsboro, 36-7. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Bruins.
Centennial was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in the league. Earlier in the week, the Cougars triumphed over Ravenwood 35-7.
Independence's dynamic duo of Chase Swayze and Vic Wharton III proved tough for Franklin to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Swayze threw for 91 yards and two touchdowns and Wharton III had 82 yards receiving. Kenton Brown helped Independence's passing attack out by catching one ball for 12 yards.
Cole Yeomans made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Rebels lost to the Eagles. The 5-foot-10 senior recorded one fumble.
Joe Critchlow provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Franklin fell to Independence. He completed 12 passes for 122 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 31 yards. Critchlow's favorite target this week was Max Taylor, who caught four passes for 45 yards.
Ben Green was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 145 yards on 12 carries as Brentwood bested Donnie Webb's team. Anthony Caldwell also contributed to the rushing game with 61 yards on the ground.
6-foot-3 quarterback Critchlow of the Rebels is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1100. He has also thrown 12 touchdowns. On the ground, Mark Pemberton's team's Green has rushed for 1014 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Andy Schumpert. The Brentwood star has 13 catches for 357 yards.
The Eagles made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 892 from 1,194. The improvement was the result of 28-21 victory over Franklin last week.
