On Friday, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Newark Memorial had to settle for a 29-26 defeat against Piedmont. Newark Memorial has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Markos Lagios was his usual excellent self, rushing for 59 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 234 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.1 yards per attempt. Another player making a difference was Sam Shelby, who picked up 120 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Newark Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Piedmont, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-3.
Newark Memorial does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Piedmont will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Alhambra at 7:00 p.m. on November 10th. Alhambra is on a four-game streak of home wins, Piedmont a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
