The Notre Dame (SO) Knights will head out on the road to challenge the Culver City Centaurs at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Notre Dame (SO) is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Notre Dame (SO) picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 7-1 margin over St. Joseph. The result was nothing new for Notre Dame (SO), who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Alisha Covarrubias was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned run off nine hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Keira Luderer and Jackie Morales did most of the damage at the plate: Luderer went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Morales scored a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That home run was Luderer's first of the season. Nadia Ledon was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one triple.
Notre Dame (SO) hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Culver City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Venice, falling 11-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Sofia De LaFuente made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Notre Dame (SO) is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. Culver City's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Culver City's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Notre Dame (SO) hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. It's a different story for Culver City, though, as they've only averaged .200. Will they be able to contain Notre Dame (SO)'s hitters?
