The Sahuaro Cougars came tearing into Tuesday's game with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.1 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 83-33 victory over Desert View on the road. Given Sahuaro's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while Desert View is ranked 288th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sahuaro found their leader in underclassman Cisco Llamas, who scored 16 points along with eight steals. The contest was Llamas' 12th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Julian Yazon, who scored 15 points.
Sahuaro pushed their record up to 11-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 81.8 points per game. As for Desert View, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.
Sahuaro will take on American Leadership Academy - Ironwood in a holiday battle at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at. American Leadership Academy - Ironwood is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Desert View will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cholla at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2024. Cholla knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matchups -- so hopefully Desert View likes a good challenge.
