Baseball Recap: New Site Drops Season-High Score on Covenant Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Site). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Covenant Christian Eagles a 16-0 shutout on Friday. The Royals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.

Jayden Greene was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Greene was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landon Stanley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Rylan Stanley was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.

New Site was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.

New Site has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. Covenant Christian dropped their record down to 0-8 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Site will host East Union at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Union is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Covenant Christian, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Waterloo at 5:00 p.m.
