Springport is 10-0 against the Rangers since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Springport Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Reading Rangers at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Springport is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Rangers in Michigan (the Spartans are ranked 153rd, while the Rangers are ranked 353rd).
Springport pushed their score all the way to 58 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Bath by a score of 61-58. Springport's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Springport's loss came about despite a quality game from Maddux Locke, who scored 28 points along with seven assists and five steals. Locke is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Chloey Speer was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five assists and four steals.
Reading meant business on Monday, getting buckets from all over the court against a Terriers squad that has allowed just 30 points per contest. Reading breezed by the Terriers at home to the tune of 62-35. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-7.
Aubree Ervans was her usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie Santure, who scored ten points.
Springport's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Reading, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Springport have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Reading struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Springport against the Rangers in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 59-17 victory. With Springport ahead 54-5 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
