Softball Recap: Ross Gets the Win

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contest, Ross brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They never let the Jay Jaguars get on the board and left with a 21-0 victory on Thursday. With that win, the Little Giants brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Brooklyn Berndt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Berndt was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those runs marked the first that she has scored this season.

In other pitching news, Olivia Anstead looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Lilly Halbeisen, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. She also put up two RBI, which were her first of the season. Reese Boukissen was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Ross always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Ross' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Jay, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Ross will face off against Notre Dame at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday. The Titans will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Little Giants surely won't give up without a fight. As for Jay, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Port Richmond at 4:00 p.m. on the 20th.
