The Verdugo Hills Dons will square off against the Marquez Gladiators at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Verdugo Hills knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 16 matches -- so hopefully Marquez likes a good challenge.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Verdugo Hills walked away with it. They took their matchup at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 86-57 victory over the Dons. Given Verdugo Hills' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 402nd, while Dorsey is ranked 832nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Verdugo Hills to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alexander Martinez, who shot 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Georges Abdulnour was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Marquez put the finishing touches on their 12th blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Legacy 59-37. Winning may never get old, but Marquez sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Verdugo Hills has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-11 record this season. As for Marquez, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-7.
