The North Providence Cougars will challenge the Scituate Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. North Providence has now lost 11 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 4.
North Providence came up short against Woonsocket on Tuesday, falling 18-6.
Makenna Heon was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one double. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.3 stolen bases per game. Another player making a difference was Adrianna Fortin, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Scituate won against Woonsocket on Monday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Spartans walked away with an 8-3 win over Burrillville. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Broncos recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Isabella Defusco spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Scituate got a massive performance out of Lily Maggiacomo, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave Maggiacomo a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Rotondo, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Scituate kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
North Providence's loss dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Scituate, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.
North Providence beat Scituate 5-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2016. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
