The St. Marys Blue Devils will challenge the Wahama White Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Marys is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last ten games.
On Thursday, St. Marys needed a bit of extra time to put away Parkersburg. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Big Reds, sneaking past 7-5.
Ella Bullman was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Winland, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Wahama made easy work of Ripley on Wednesday and carried off an 18-1 win. The result was nothing new for the White Falcons, who have now won 12 contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Elissa Hoffman was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Hoffman was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kalyn Christian, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Fiona VanMatre was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Wahama kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
St. Marys' victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Wahama, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-4.
Wahama's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. St. Marys has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Wahama, though, as they've been averaging only 3.3 strikeouts. Will St. Marys keep running through batters, or will the White Falcons buck the trend?
Everything went St. Marys' way against Wahama in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as St. Marys made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
