5A Region I District 3 recap Nov. 7, 2012
Martin extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region I District 3 this week by beating Houston, 52-21. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Warriors.
Martin took down the Texans 52-21 last week, the largest margin of any game. Matt Waller threw for 103 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 36 yards in the win.
Eric Rivers was the best wideout in the league this week as Bowie topped Arlington. Rivers tallied five receptions for 85 yards. Don Jerry helped Bowie's passing attack out by catching three balls for 67 yards.
James Battley made the biggest impact on defense this week as North Crowley bested Paschal. The 5-foot-9 defensive back grabbed two interceptions.
Dre'lyn Holley was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 122 yards on 11 carries as the Panthers topped the Colts. Kristen Fields also contributed to the rushing game with 42 yards on the ground.
Tony James provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Bowie defeated Arlington. He completed 17 passes for 236 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 109 yards.
Scott Peach's team's Connor Huffman and Dontha Robinson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 5A Region I District 3 in both passing and receiving yards. Huffman has thrown for 1577 yards this season, while Robinson, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 37 catches for 646 yards. Bob Wager's team's Kyle Hicks leads the league in rushing yards with 1105.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Bowie takes on second place Martin. Last week, Kenny Perry's team bested the Colts, while the Warriors topped Houston.
There should be lots of points scored when the Volunteers and Martin face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Bowie comes in having scored 433 this season, while the Warriors have scored 373. The Volunteers scored 38 points last week as they beat Arlington.
Martin led the league in scoring this week after putting up 52 points on Anthony Criss' team. Waller in the win.
