Basketball Recap: Pine River-Backus Takes a Loss

It was fun while it lasted, but Pine River-Backus's undefeated season came to an end after three games on Friday. They took a 53-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Red Lake Warriors. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February.

Red Lake's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Austin Perkins, who posted 14 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Perkins is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Tyrone Beaulieu Jr was another key player, putting up 11 points along with eight boards and four steals.

Having lost for the first time this season, Pine River-Backus fell to 3-1. As for Red Lake, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Pine River-Backus and Nevis will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Nevis' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Red Lake, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 75-59 victory against Fond du Lac Ojibwe O on the 14th.
