For the first time this season, South Whidbey will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Granite Falls Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. South Whidbey is looking for their season's first victory.
South Whidbey had taken Coupeville down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Friday. The Falcons were dealt a 35-6 defeat at the hands of the Wolves.
Despite the loss, South Whidbey got top-tier performance from Bryson Taylor, who picked up 80 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 82 yards.
Meanwhile, Granite Falls really took it to Friday Harbor for the full four quarters, racking up a 48-19 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 21 points or more this season.
South Whidbey better keep an eye on Beau Everson. He was instrumental in Granite Falls' win, rushing for 172 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 carries, while also picking up 35 receiving yards and one score. That's the most rushing yards Everson has posted since back in October of 2024.
Granite Falls was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 208 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 152 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Granite Falls, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Gino Howard, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
South Whidbey's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Granite Falls, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
South Whidbey took a serious blow against Granite Falls when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 33-0. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Everson, who rushed for 190 yards and four TDs, and also picked up 78 receiving yards. Now that the Falcons know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
