Basketball Recap: Land O' Lakes Takes a Loss

Land O' Lakes played a tough game on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 72-39 loss at the hands of the Fivay Falcons. The Gators were down 45-24 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Several Gators players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jessi Saffold, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten steals. Saffold is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least five every time she's taken the court this season. Julia Foster was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Land O' Lakes smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Fivay was led to victory by Naimah Mota and Alenna Giron. Mota dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 boards, while Giron dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Giron a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Jaslene Medina, who posted 12 points along with five rebounds and five steals.

Land O' Lakes has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for Fivay, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 9-11 record.

Land O' Lakes will head out on the road to challenge Cypress Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fivay, they will square off against Hudson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fivay has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
