The Northern Patriots waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 41-38 victory over Thomas Stone. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Northern also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Leading Northern to victory were Makayla Marvray and Haley Longfellow. Marvray scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Longfellow scored nine points along with six rebounds and two steals. Marvray has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played.
Thomas Stone's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makaiya Tucker, who scored 15 points. That was a full 39.5% of Thomas Stone's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Gabrielle Malone, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Northern is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. As for Thomas Stone, they dropped their record down to 7-10 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.
Northern will head out on the road to square off against Chopticon at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Northern focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday. As for Thomas Stone, they will head out on the road to challenge Calvert at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Thomas Stone is facing Calvert at the right time seeing as Calvert is stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
