Becker and Cambridge-Isanti are an even 4-4 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Becker Bulldogs' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Even though Becker has not done well against Princeton recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Becker walked away with a 98-86 win over Princeton. Given Becker's advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 151st, while Princeton is ranked 389th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kyan Blomquist continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Mitchell Soltau was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cambridge-Isanti came tearing into Thursday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Chisago Lakes Area and snuck past 76-73. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Cambridge-Isanti has posted yet this season.
Becker's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 87.0 points per game. As for Cambridge-Isanti, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Becker might still be hurting after the 79-53 loss they got from Cambridge-Isanti in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Becker avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
