The Forge Christian Fury will challenge the Platte Valley Broncos at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Forge Christian comes in on four and Platte Valley on five.
Forge Christian is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Highland 9-1. Considering the Fury have won 13 contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Forge Christian let Ben McLean and Jonah Boykin run wild. McLean got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Boykin got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Easton Wilde, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Forge Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April.
Meanwhile, Platte Valley narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Fowler 2-1.
Dagan Gomez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits.
At the plate, Platte Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hudson Flummerfelt, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Forge Christian's record now sits at 23-4. As for Platte Valley, their record is now 18-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Forge Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Platte Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Forge Christian couldn't quite finish off Platte Valley when the teams last played two weeks ago and fell 2-0. Can the Fury avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
