Perryton extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 3-12. They lost 16-7 to the Borger Bulldogs. If the Rangers were looking for revenge after losing 5-2 to the Bulldogs when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Jaxten Castanon was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Adolfo Hernandez, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Borger, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 6-9. That looming 16-7 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.
On Borger's side, Jesus Martinez and Tony Phillips made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Martinez pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Phillips pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Martinez posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. At the plate, Martinez went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base, while Phillips went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Trey Griffin and Lincoln Buchanan did most of the damage at the plate: Griffin went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one triple, and one stolen base, while Buchanan went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Buchanan is becoming a predictor of Borger's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Christian Garcia was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Perryton and Borger could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Rangers will challenge Randall at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (966 vs. 235). Meanwhile, Borger (ranked 802nd) will meet West Plains (ranked 126th) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
