The Cheylin Cougars kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They took a 61-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northern Valley. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
When it comes to explaining why Cheylin lost, one person who can't be blamed is Pablo Bermudez. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points along with 7 steals. Another player making a difference was Matthew Hendricks, who scored 12 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Northern Valley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kenton Thalheim, who scored 18 points along with 6 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Thalheim , who scored 15 points along with 8 rebounds.
Cheylin's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Northern Valley, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Cheylin will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Triplains/Brewster at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th. As for Northern Valley, they will square off against Oakley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
