Baseball Game Preview: Antioch Sequoits vs. Wauconda Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Antioch will face off against Wauconda. The Sequoits will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Antioch is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

While Antioch didn't have the best season last year (they finished 14-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Wauconda by a score of 11-8 on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Sequoits have beaten the Bulldogs on their field since May 10, 2023.

RJ Deguzman looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

At the plate, Hunter Feldkamp was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Mozina, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Antioch always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Antioch's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Wauconda, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

Antioch's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Sequoits have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Wauconda, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Antioch continue to outrun the ball?
