The Fairfield Lions will head out on the road to challenge the McClain Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fairfield is looking to tack on another W to their 16-game streak on the road.
Fairfield stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They put the hurt on Southeastern with a sharp 69-49 victory. Given Fairfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 158th, while Southeastern is ranked 611th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Larkin Friend was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan McIntosh, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds.
McClain fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They enjoyed a cozy 53-38 victory over Piketon on Saturday. That looming 53-38 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for McClain yet this season.
Fairfield's win bumped their record up to 15-0. As for McClain, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-11.
Fairfield took their win against McClain in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 65-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fairfield since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
