Pine Island had lost six straight at home, but on Monday they dropped down to 2-6 to make it seven. They fell 10-5 to the Goodhue Wildcats. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 6-3.
M Skibsted put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Skibsted was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, J Schleusner was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. E. Stapleton also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
As for Goodhue, their record is now 3-5. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Like Pine Island, Goodhue also got a great game from a two-way player: Lucy Wachholz. On the mound, Wachholz tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Meanwhile, Aubrey Christianson tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Wachholz went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Christianson got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs.
In other batting news, Jenna Nelson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Lola Christianson, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Pine Island is set to challenge their familiar foe Lake City at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Goodhue will take on rival Byron at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
