The Covenant Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Christchurch School Seahorses at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (The Covenant has three straight victories, Christchurch School has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Thursday, The Covenant made easy work of Regents and carried off an 8-1 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by seven runs or more this season.
Phillip Venton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, The Covenant let Hudson Reese and Latham Clark run wild. Reese got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs, while Clark got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Reese a new career-high. Colton Kessick was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Christchurch School came up short against Isle of Wight Academy on Monday and fell 6-2.
Christchurch School saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mac Bargatze, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Anthony Dentener also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
The Covenant pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Christchurch School, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. The Covenant has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Christchurch School struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
The Covenant beat Christchurch School 6-2 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
