The Northern Patriots will venture away from home to take on the North Point Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Northern is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
Northern took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over Patuxent. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Northern saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tony Holson, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Connor Renzi was another, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
North Point came out on top against Thomas Stone on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run first inning. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Cougars. Considering the Eagles have won four matches by more than ten runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Zavier Bowman and Khyri Davenport made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Bowman struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Davenport struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). At bat, Bowman went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Davenport went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those three RBI gave Bowman a new career-high.
In other batting news, Anthony Williams and Aiden Scott did most of the damage at the plate: Williams got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Scott went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Tristan Roy also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
North Point always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
North Point has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Northern, their record is now 11-5.
Northern took their win against North Point in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
