Fletcher hadn't done well against Episcopal School of Jacksonville recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Fletcher Senators sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 44-41 win over the Episcopal School of Jacksonville Eagles. The victory was familiar territory for the Senators who have now won six matches in a row.

Fletcher got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mattie Gilliam out in front who posted 11 points. Kristyona Harris was another key player, putting up seven points and nine rebounds.

Despite the loss, Episcopal School of Jacksonville saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jacqueline Ches went 5 of 11 on her way to 19 points. Ches' evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kailyn Ryals, who had eight points.

Fletcher's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2. As for Episcopal School of Jacksonville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.

Fletcher wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 67-38 win against St. Augustine on the 16th. As for Episcopal School of Jacksonville, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Fayette County at 2:10 p.m. on December 27th. Fayette County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Episcopal School of Jacksonville likes a good challenge.
