Sophia DeMonbrun spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Clark saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Allison Reed, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Cimarron-Memorial put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Pinecrest Academy Cadence. The Spartans put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 23-0 victory. Considering the Spartans have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Jazlene Rodriguez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jasmine Ponce was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Taylor Ramos was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles.
Cimarron-Memorial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .871. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pinecrest Academy Cadence only posted an OBP of .455.
The win got Cimarron-Memorial back to even at 8-8. As for Clark, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-7-1.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Clark hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Cimarron-Memorial struggles in that department as they've averaged .373. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Clark suffered a grim 10-4 defeat to Cimarron-Memorial in their previous meeting on April 7th. Will the Chargers have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
