The Richland County Tigers will venture away from home to face off against the Lawrenceville Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Richland County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11 runs per game this season.
Richland County will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Mt. Carmel, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Tigers blew past the Golden Aces 11-1 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Tigers have posted against the Golden Aces since March 16, 2019.
Richland County got a great performance from Natalie Ochs as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Ochs has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Miranda Dowty and Taylor Bloomer did most of the damage at the plate: Dowty went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Bloomer scored two runs while going 3-for-3. That home run marked the first that Dowty launched this season. Clara Williams was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Richland County lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Lawrenceville came into Wednesday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past South Knox 12-10. The game was the first time the Indians have beaten the Spartans on their field since April 10, 2019.
Allison Evans made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Evans was even better at the plate, scoring five runs while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two).
In other batting news, Alyssa Griggs was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Addy Brush, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI.
Lawrenceville picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 3-8. As for Richland County, their record is now 5-3.
Lawrenceville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Richland County has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Lawrenceville, though, as they've been averaging 10.5 hits. Given Richland County's sizable advantage in that area, the Indians will need to find a way to close that gap.
Richland County took their win against Lawrenceville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
