The Cherry Creek Bruins won the last time they faced the Rangeview Raiders, and things went their way on Monday too. Cherry Creek walked away with a 44-31 win over Rangeview. Given Cherry Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Rangeview is ranked 127th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Braelynn Barnett was the offensive standout of the contest as she scored ten points. She set a new season high mark in blocks with two. Addy Beck was another key contributor, scoring five points along with four steals.
Rangeview's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was D'ajha Horton, who scored nine points along with five rebounds. Horton scored a full 29% of Rangeview's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Zania Romero-king, who scored nine points.
The victory makes it two in a row for Cherry Creek and bumps their season record up to 8-2. As for Rangeview, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cherry Creek won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Regis Jesuit at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. Hopefully Regis Jesuit focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday. As for Rangeview, they will head out on the road to face off against Regis Groff at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Regis Groff has four straight victories, Rangeview has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
