Contreras is 6-1 against Roybal since November of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Contreras Cobras will look to defend their home field against the Roybal Titans at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Contreras is ranked 996th, while Roybal is ranked 1010th).
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 50-19, which was the final score in Contreras' tilt against Bernstein on Friday. Contreras was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-7.
Contreras' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Cody Nunez, who rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and Supavit Jaithieng who rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Roybal at home against Belmont on Friday as the squad secured a 47-6 win. The win was just what Roybal needed coming off of a 71-39 loss in their prior contest.
Max Ibarra was a one-man wrecking crew for Roybal as he threw for 279 yards and six touchdowns while completing 82.6% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Ibarra is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. Gonzalo Chavarria was another key contributor, picking up 92 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Bernstein's victory bumped their season record to 7-2 while Contreras' loss dropped theirs to 3-6.
Contreras suffered a grim 34-14 defeat to Roybal in their previous meeting back in September of 2022. Thankfully for Contreras, Pablo Gutierrez (who rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and also picked up 32 receiving yards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
