The Merit Preparatory Academy Knights can finally bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They secured a 68-62 W over Freedom Prep Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Merit Preparatory Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ayden Martinez, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Martinez pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Harrison Petersen, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Merit Preparatory Academy's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-11. As for Freedom Prep Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-11.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing American Prep WV the next time they take the court. Merit Preparatory Academy will host American Prep WV at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Freedom Prep Academy will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
