Workman is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Walnut is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Workman Lobos will be home for the holidays to greet the Walnut Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Workman's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matchups.
Workman has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 24 points or more this season. They were the clear victor by a 66-41 margin over Garden Grove.
Aaron Hernandez continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 13 steals. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Workman's points. Luis Saenz was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with nine rebounds and five blocks.
Meanwhile, Walnut strolled past Wilson with points to spare on Thursday, taking the game 54-36. Given Walnut's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while Wilson is ranked 625th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Myles Wainwright, who scored 24 points along with six rebounds. Those 24 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Nathan Yen, who scored 13 points.
Workman's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Walnut, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.
Monday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Workman have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 33.7 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Walnut, though, as they've been averaging only 27.5 rebounds per game. Given Workman's sizeable advantage in that area, Walnut will need to find a way to close that gap.
