Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Simi Valley Pioneers, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a 55-38 bruising from the Cavaliers on Saturday. Simi Valley's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
When it comes to explaining why Simi Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Brice Hawkins. Despite the final result, he rushed for 210 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry, and also picked up 59 receiving yards. Hawkins is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jesse Sereno, who threw for 310 yards and three touchdowns.
Bryson Donelson was his usual excellent self, rushing for 358 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.8 yards per carry for Central Valley Christian. Donelson really tore up the turf during one magnificent 74-yard run. Brent Kroeze was another key contributor, throwing for 153 yards and two touchdowns.
Simi Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Central Valley Christian, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-1.
Simi Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Central Valley Christian will square off against Los Gatos at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Los Gatos' defense has only allowed 14.3 points per game this season, so Central Valley Christian's offense will have their work cut out for Central Valley Christian.
