The Gilmer County Titans will take on the Roane County Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Gilmer County's favor as the team sits on eight straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Roane County has been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.
Gilmer County will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating Ravenswood, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Titans blew past the Red Devils 11-1 on Saturday. The Titans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.
Jacob Stewart spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Gilmer County let Kolten Holbert and Remington Huffman run wild. Holbert went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Huffman went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Huffman has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Lexington Grogg, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Gilmer County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .412 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Roane County posted their closest win since April 29, 2025 on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Wirt County. The win continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won seven in a row.
The team relied heavily on Reis Thornabar, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-2. Alex Richardson also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Gilmer County's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Roane County, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Roane County's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Gilmer County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Roane County, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4 strikeouts. Will Gilmer County keep running through batters, or will the Raiders buck the trend?
