MaxPreps Soccer Tour of Champions celebrates Chenango Forks High School

Thursday, Jan. 12 marked another fantastic stop on the 12th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, which is in its sixth year honoring girls soccer. On this stop, the Chenango Forks (Binghamton, N.Y.) High School's girls soccer team was honored as they defeated Westhill (2-1) for the its first 2016 NYSPHSSA Class B state title.

The Blue Devils finished the season a remarkable 23-0, and as head coach Chris Walsh said, "It is incredible what the team has been able to accomplish, and couldn't be any prouder of our girls."

According to MaxPreps' computer rankings system, Chenango Forks' performance this season places them amongst the best girls soccer teams in the nation.

Of the 16,000+ boys and girls soccer programs nationwide, MaxPreps ranked the Blue Devils No. 16 in the country and No. 1 in the state of New York. After hearing that the Blue Devils would be a part of this select and elite group teams, Coach Walsh could not have been more appreciative, "We are very excited for this recognition. MaxPreps is a huge part of high school sports and it's an honor to be recognized."

During the ceremony Sergeant Krause of the New York State Army National Guard spoke about the character traits found on a championship team and how they are similar to the traits of each member within the Army National Guard. SGT Krause congratulated the team on their season accomplishments as he presented Coach Walsh and the team with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy.

Coach Walsh concluded the ceremony by thanking everyone who had attended the ceremony and everyone who had supported them throughout the season. The entire team then gathered together and took formal photos with the "Minuteman" trophy and Tour of Champions national ranking rafter banner.

Congratulations to Coach Walsh and the Chenango Forks High School girls soccer team on a great season and national ranking!
