After two games on the road, Whitley County is heading back home. They will be home for the holidays to greet the Belfry Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Whitley County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matchups.
Even though Nicholas County scored an imposing 56 points on Tuesday, Whitley County still came out on top. Whitley County took their game against Nicholas County 65-56. Given Whitley County's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while Nicholas County is ranked 160th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, the stars were shining brightly for Belfry in a 66-52 win over Grundy on Thursday.
Belfry had a senior duo take command as Makaden Maynard dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds and Eric Daniels scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Daniels has scored at least 25% of Belfry's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Jude, who scored 14 points.
Whitley County's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.7 points per game. As for Belfry, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Whitley County beat Belfry 62-54 in their previous matchup back in December of 2019. Will Whitley County repeat their success, or does Belfry have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
