Softball Recap: Munford Snags Sixth Win in Last Eight Games

While Munford didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Millington Central Trojans with a sharp 9-0 victory on Thursday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by six runs or more this season.

Gabriel Jones was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Ellie Kate Billings was incredible, scoring a run while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since March 3rd. Kaitlyn McCain also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Munford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Millington Central only managed nine hits.

Munford has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. Millington Central's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-8-1.

Coming up, Munford will venture away from home to take on Northpoint Christian at 4:03 p.m. on Friday. Munford's pitchers better be ready for this one: Northpoint Christian has averaged an impressive 11.9 runs per game this season. As for Millington Central, they will challenge Senatobia at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
