For the first time this season, Westtown will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing at home against the Friends Select Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
If Westtown beats Friends Select with 17 runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Westtown put the hurt on Solebury with a sharp 17-2 win on Saturday. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for Westtown this season.
Westtown got a massive performance out of Cooper Speacht, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Francisco Benbow was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.
Westtown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .703. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Friends Select got the win against Barrack Hebrew Academy on Wednesday by a conclusive 7-1. The victory continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won five in a row.
Bryson Evans made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Evans was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.
Evans wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jayce Fairfax, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another was Jules Parisi, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Friends Select's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Westtown, they pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Westtown has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Friends Select struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Westtown was able to grind out a solid win over Friends Select in their previous meeting back in May of 2018, winning 5-1. Will Westtown repeat their success, or does Friends Select has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
