The Mountain Ridge Sentinels will face off against the Skyridge Falcons at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Mountain Ridge will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
Mountain Ridge is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Everything went their way against Herriman as they made off with a 17-3 victory. The Sentinels' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Karson Fankhauser made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Tag Natter looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (two).
Back at the plate, Cooper Goff was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April. Another player making a difference was Carter Bell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Mountain Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .531. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in seven consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Skyridge faced Copper Hills in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Falcons sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over the Grizzlies.
Nathan Whitehead looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has become a key player for Skyridge: the team is 7-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 9-10 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Skyridge got a massive performance out of Miles Robinson, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Rip Roberts Roberts, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Skyridge's victory bumped their record up to 16-12. As for Mountain Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 21-6.
Skyridge's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Mountain Ridge has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game.
