This season hasn't been kind to the Mitchell Marauders, who are still winless after their ninth game. They were outmatched by Widefield on the road and fell 64-24. Mitchell was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-12.
When it comes to explaining why Mitchell lost on Saturday, one person who can't be blamed is Jayciona Fisher. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fisher has scored all season. Isabella Wilkinson was another key contributor, scoring three points along with seven rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Mitchell struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Widefield racked up 13 assists.
Widefield got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kasaya Krause out in front who scored 15 points along with eight steals. Krause hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Zariah Ortiz, who scored 17 points along with two steals.
Mitchell's loss was their 18th straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 0-9. As for Widefield, their victory bumped their record up to 7-4.
Mitchell will square off against Banning Lewis Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Widefield, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Coronado at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Coronado focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Saturday.
