Even though the Wirt County Tigers have not done well against the Tyler Knights recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Wirt County came out on top against Tyler by a score of 63-51. The win made it back-to-back wins for Wirt County.
Wirt County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Connor Hoover led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Hoover also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Alex Bevel was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds.
Wirt County pushed their record up to 6-5 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Tyler, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Wirt County will head out on the road to face off against Gilmer County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Gilmer County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Monday. As for Tyler, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Magnolia at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. Magnolia will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps West Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 511th, while Tyler is ranked 93rd).
